This is the second pair of jeans I’ve embroidered for my friend, and I’m thrilled to have had the chance to create something special that she’ll love wearing. The floral embroidery on the cuffs was super easy to do, making it a perfect project for beginners. It’s always a joy to craft something unique for someone who truly appreciates it!
Tools and Materials
Just the basic embroidery kit is all you need.
You will need the following:
- Jeans
- Embroidery floss (green and some bright colours for the flowers)
- Needles
- If you’re embroidering on dark denim, you’ll need a water-soluble fabric stabiliser for easier pattern transfer. For lighter-coloured jeans, a water-soluble marker will be enough.
- For these simple flowers, you won’t necessarily need an embroidery hoop.
- Additional back-facing stabiliser is not needed for heavier textiles like denim.
Instructions
1. Prepare the jeans
- Roll up the hem and secure in place with pins.
- Draw your flowers and a couple of leaves.
2. Stitching
This is also a beginner friendly project, it doesn’t require any advanced techniques.
- These are the stitches I used for this pattern:
- Stems: stem stitch
- Leaves: fishbone stitch
- Petals: lazy daisy and straight stitch
- Sepal of the flowers: satin stitch
- Center of the flowers and the light green leaves: french knots
- Since this garment will be worn and used, make sure to tie the threads instead of tucking them under each other.
3. Wash away the marker
- Immerse the embroidered fabric in water.
- Make sure to wash away the ink thoroughly.
